I would like amnesty /
absolution
freedom from the guilt
   of Catholic girls
martyred by the Sisters
    of Christian Charity

From the fear of hell
   and the burning souls
that forever agony
   of intangible immortality
that infinite punishment
Penance 

Absolution
for white lies or thoughts
   privy only to a god
smelling of incense
   and old wood
looking like Zeus
   angry and clenching 
lightning bolts 
   ready to strike
from illuminated colored glass
 
I would like amnesty
   a god of green woods
and wet stones
    and silent trees
whose sunny days or overcast
   walks forgive /
just amnesty
